Appendix Two

Food and Beverage Assistant

I currently work in a local medium sized hotel, in the Food and Beverage Department. I have been working here since October 2011, as a full time Food and Beverage Assistant. In December 2012, I gained a place on the company's Leadership One Development Programme, which I completed in June 2013. 

In April 2013, I was promoted to Food and Beverage Team Leader / Supervisor and spent 6 months as the Breakfast Supervisor prior to beginning my degree. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to continue this while studying and dropped down onto a part time, 24 hours per week, contract.

My job requires me to work in all Food and Beverage outlets - Restaurant (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner), Bar, Lounge, Room Service and Conference & Banqueting. This can be all tasks from taking orders, serving food and drinks, running room service, talking to customers, running a buffet and keeping all areas clean and tidy. I still get the odd shift where I am used as a supervisor but not often, as it causes confusion over my role and makes it difficult for some members of the team.
